What to Expect

If you haven't been to a Forest Therapy/ Forest Bathing session before you might have an idea in your mind about what it entails.  Before I experienced it myself I pictured lots of people lying down on yoga mats on the forest floor! Whilst my sessions do offer you the opportunity to do this, and in fact some people come along and decide only to do this, there's also going to be chance for you to actively participate in a series of invitations designed to help you to awaken your senses and deepen your natural connection.

In my experience, the forest always finds a way to provide a unique experience for all who participate; you'll often find that this is exactly what you needed in the moment! ✨

Session Structure

A session typically lasts 2.5- 3 hours, depending on the group and the season, and follows the below format:

  • Meet and Greet- Housekeeping
  • Walk from meeting point to forest area (approx 2-3km)
  • Guided invitation to awaken your senses
  • Solo immersion
  • Slow, mindful walk (1-2km)
  • Guided exploratory activities
  • Tea sharing circle- with a choice of seasonal foraged teas or good old fashioned teabags!
  • Walk back to meeting point

There will also be the opportunity to share any reflections at the end of each invitation- but this purely optional.

Making the Most of Your Experience

Whilst there's no right or wrong way to 'do' Forest Therapy- there's things that you can do to maximise your experience. Many of these will also help you to de-stress when you're out walking in the woods in your own time:

  • Slow down- way down! Really notice what is going on around you.
  • Use all of your senses where possible.
  • Breathe Deeply.
  • Switch off your phone and remove any other distractions.
  • Acknowledge any thoughts that come to your mind and let them pass- don't try to fight them.
  • Similarly, feel what you feel. Don't try to force it, don't try to hide it. Just be.
